View Full Version : removing seats

Hi all, just wanted to pick your brains!
I tried to take the seats out of my dads car to swap for a different set, (he wants to try 75 seats in his zt as he prefers the comfort) but the drivers seat torx bolt rear left is looking near impossible to remove. The bolt has obviously been removed before and the star part is pretty mashed. A t50 is now slightly smaller than the hole, so it can't get a good bite on it. I tried different torx bits and an allen key, but they are all slipping.
There's not enough room to get mole grips in there either. Does anyone have any ideas that I could try?
Thanks

Hammer and small chisel to "tap" it round, hopefully once started it will come out easier.

it is likely a torx plus 50 size or a ribe 8, try those first, if you can. it seems there are varying reports of sizes fitted

I think this will end up being how it's done - had to do the same. :(

As above, I think this will be the only option....

Thanks all, I'll have a chat with my dad and see how much he really wants to change seats!

Hi Bill.

Do you think that set is capable of removing the steering wheel airbag which has a mullered screw.

Julien, because of the position of that one I think even more so.... I really don't think there is any other way, sorry.

That is why when I put these bolts back I tighten then just a touch more than finger tight, using these... ;) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-12977-7-Piece-Tx-Star-Offset/dp/B0001K9P1O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1421317843&sr=8-5&keywords=torx+key+set (Really hard to tighten them too much that way).
