do you hae a diagram of the position of the o ring i have looked at the rimmers diagram and the o ring part number STC 4540 is not shown thanks

Oh yes, sorry. That's the main sealing ring.

I have a diesel stat here in bits. This photo shows the socket in the housing where the coolant pipe with the O-Ring (STC4540) fits.

does this seal have a history of failure and is it easyto replace rather that the whole thermostat

it maybe that it is at this point that the coolant is leaking
