Is it possible to change the front coil springs without taking the damper off the hub assembly? The pinch bolt is stuck and I don't want to sheer it off.

Yes no problem at all, as long as the lower hub pinch bolt comes out.

Unstake and undo the driveshaft nut, split the steering track rod end, and drop the lower arm uniball out from the bottom of the hub after removing the pinch bolt and after you have removed the 3 top mount bolts the complete strut and hub can be removed.

Yep , as said , no problem . You will also need to disconnect the ABS sensor at its plug on the inner wing if you do not ( or cannot ! ) remove it .
If you fancy sorting the stubborn bolt whilst it is off , you might find my own experiences an interesting read .......

It's a bit of a faff handing the strut and hub (as they're quite heavy together) but certainly do-able. :)
