I'm assuming that you have never changed the oil since buying the car in which case I would be looking at changing the oil and filter, the choice of oil is up to you, for the cdt it must be A3/B3 spec, semi or full synthetic.
Cant help with the Ka you might want to check the handbook if you have one.

It really shouldn't be using any significant amount of oil between changes at all. As already mentioned the oil should be semi or fully synthetic meeting (or exceeding) A3/B3 specification (higher numbers are better e.g. A3/B4 is good). As far as grade goes 10w40, 5w40, 0w40 are all fine.

Agree with colvert. I use Shell Helix H7 10/40 and just bought some Valvoline 10/40 for topping up.:}

As you can see, different people use different makes of oil for their cars. The specification for the diesel have changed, but are compatible with each other. They are all ACEA A3/B3, but you can use A3/B4, the B4specification is a later spec.I use Castrol Magnatec Semi Synthetic 10/40, my friend uses Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic.We both achieve near enough the same mpg, and neither engine requires topping up between oil changes. You pays your money and take your choice.
