Hi all.... bit of a conundrum today

Sunday pulled some cables through the drivers door flexi for a project, no drama there, closed and locked the car... all normal

On way home last night the bonnet open alarm flicked up and disappeared twice... stopped opened the bonnet and wiggled the switch to make the contacts securely, drove home and parked up, locked the car no issue.

This morning I opens her up, drives to work with no alarms and when I go to lock her the DD stays on and the IPK lower display stays lit... then is I lock her she bips at me... hmmm... check all doors, boot bonnet... no alarms...

tried again... beep.

Disconnected battery as I did not want the alarm going off all day in the company car park or to run flat with the DD or IPK ...
Jumps back in tonight
Reconnects battery, all ok... drive home, no drama... parks up....

DD turns off, DD turns on, DD turns off, DD turns on....
IPK lower display lit...
Beep.
Takes the key out of the ignition and the windscreen and boot wipers start going...:eek:
puts the key back in, wipers still going...
dip the stalk once for pulse wipe and 1 wipe and stops....

all other functions work OK
CL
ACU
IPK (apart from lower display stays on)
seats
engine is fine
sunroof
etc, etc.

I am thinking BCU?

any help appreciated
have wiggled relays and the loom over the wheels seemed very sound a week ago when I looked....

an all day battery reset did not do it...
FBH fuse is out

all lights and indicators function and message system is ok (k-bus)

little help please...

I would guess at the BCU being woken up by the bonnet contact and that waking up everything else.

Try bluetacking a coin to the bonnet, so it presses down a bit more on the switch.

For the benefit of all the 75 novices out there what is a BCU? bearing in mind the last car I did any serious work on was a Mk 3 escort and I don't think it would have had a BCU thingy!!

Body Control Unit....

any ideas on this one folks... I have shorted the bonnet switch and as it was not alarming except for Monday evening I am thinking more of a control issue...

all ideas welcome...

No need to short the bonnet switch, does disconnect it. (push to break switch). :). I'd go through the fuses first and then if nothing there shows up, I'd suspect the BCU, but that's with very limited experience in that area.

And if you don't get sorted out in the meantime Pete, I'm sure Trikey has about 6,000,000,000 BCU units in stock

My money is on duff wiring in the EWS area caused by previous water damage from leaking sunroof drains.

When you've been pulling your new wiring through, you may well have disturbed something in that area.

In any event it's K-Bus related I would say ;)

I make you right...
i had a hunt around in the area last night in the dark and plugged in the BMW tool which showed a key 1-key 0 update for EWS and more pointedly a indicator to ground fault on the BCU...

I unpluged all K-bus items and reset everything and touch wood ok so far...
i will have the EWS out this weekend and make sure all cabling is A-ok.

Till then, spare battery in the boot...;)

thank

Pete

Damned sunroof drains.

The only thing I wish my car didn't have.
