Hi,Recently passed mot in my 1.8t 75, mechanic pointed out the front exhaust bracket had snapped in 2 places, this didn,t affect the mot cos the exhaust was secure
My question is, is this clamp necessary or should i get it welded or replaced, would be gratefull for your comments.......many thanks

Do you mean the one that clamps the manifold downpipe to the block? if so, when mine had snapped it was suggested that it was necessary to relieve the stress on the pipe, so as I could not find one, I had to make one.

I went to a metal fabrication company not far from me and asked their advice and they were more than happy to give me some mild steel strip they cut, I gave them a drink.

I made it into a rough "W" then by tightening it up at the screw holes, it created a hold in the centre, best I could do.
