Ive just come back to the car after leaving the engine on and demist on while I nipped in shop, to find SWMBO flapping and screaming at the front of the car and acrid smoke pluming out of the grill.

On quick inspection in the rain and dark it appears the Gold resistor fitted 18 months ago has failed in a big way and melted through the fan cowling and is now dangling between the fan blades.

My concern is how safe is the car, should I remove battery? Dont fancy a bonfire at the front, or will it be ok with ignition off. also will it get me a 30 mile round trip to work if I dont use the demist or ATC?

Just to be clear it was an Ebay buy and NOT the one Jules sells on here.

Press the windscreen demist button and if the radiator fan isn't running the car will be safe to drive.

As it's a diesel, your fellow owners would probably say yes.

Correct. I drove 12 months without a fan. 30 miles is nothing!
