fan cable ampage

hi I am atm doing up a two speed diesel fan.i am fitting a gold resistor to it .however I have found the black wire leading to the resistor is nearly broken.so I am going to chop that bit out and replace it,however anyone no what ampage cable is best 17amp or 27amp

The gold resistor is 100w if I remember correctly, at full tilt it would be using 8.33 amps, after which the resistor would fail anyway.
