Having just realised I had no idea what NVH meant I think we really need this for all members new and old as this may not just be a technical glossary I think this is the best place for it.

If you would like to post in this thread your various Initialisms and Acronyms we mods will add them alphabetically to this message

If you are puzzled feel free to ask what xyz means as well someone will know I hope :)

This list is for car related ones

CDT = ? often open to debate this one!
CDTi = ? as above with an i on it ;)
FBH = Fuel Burning Heater
HGF = Head Gasket Failure
ICE = In Car Entertainment
IKE = Instrument Kombi Electronics (Instrument Cluster to you and me)
MAF = Mass AirFlow Sensor
NVH = Noise Vibration and Harshness
VIS = Variable Intake System

IMO = In My Opinion
LMAO = Laughing My A** Off
LOL = Laugh Out Loud
MFI = Made For Idiots
ROTFLMAO = Rolling On The Floor etc (see LMAO)

Here's my guess

CDT - Common Rail/Diesel/Turbocharged

CDTi- Common Rail/Diesel/Turbocharged/It's now got the power it should have had :D

CDTi is the official reference for the remapped versions that MGR produced when they woke up to the fact that the CDT was capable of producing a lot more power (it already did in the BMW in any case). I suspect that perhaps BMW didn't want the CDT to compete with the 3 series so held it back so to speak. The ECU had a different software map to give the extra beans, the hardware remains exactly the same. This remap was (is?) available as a dealer software upgrade, but the Ron box effectively does much the same.

O.k, I've been a member for a while now and I've got my head round the following alright:

SWMBO - She Who Must Be Obeyed
IMHO - In My Humble Opinion
IIRC - If I Remember Correctly

But what about:
OEM?......Original Equipment...M????

And why do members just post "Bump" from time to time? :shrug:

Manufacturer

and a bump makes the thread a new post thus bringing it to peoples attention.

M.....manufacturer....

If you bump a post, it puts it back into the "new posts" list.

Most people use the new post function to see what's been added rather then trawl through each forum

HTH

That's a neat little trick, yes I use the "New Posts" button myself.

Thanks guys :D

Are there any other Acronyms I should be aware of I wonder?:box:

BTW,

HTH = Hope That Helps

So Jules.. Have you given yourself away there ? You a Tommy Handley fan too ??

Any way I have been thinking along similar lines as Reebs, should we not have a sticky somewhere with a glossary of these acronyms ?

Fbh, Vis, Hgf, and all the others are very confusing when you first come across them.

:confused:
