I was reading about this on DW, looks very good.

how is payment going to be sorted ?

Pay you and you pay him, remember to add the paypal charges and postage costs from him to you and then from you to us.

Hi all, Having found out where to look on the car for the colour code, that is bottom of door post pillar of passenger seat, there is a black lable with five alphanumeric long codes and at the bottom of there is the code BAC and a number by the side of that 103700. Is the BAC the paint code number? If it is can't find it in the tread with all the car colours on it. The actual colout is a Wedgwood blue, so am I right or have I got it wrong again? Could someone let me know, please.

Cheers KB :)

Colour code document at the bottom of this page:-

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/index.php?thepage=techdata

Wedgwood blue is either JBH or JEL according to the document. Can anybody confirm as BAC isn't listed.

Perhaps you are reading the label incorrectly? Have another look, B pillar passenger side. See if you can see JEL or JBH on there.

Received from Dr Colorchip today.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the inquiry. We offer 10 percent off the kit price, but you’ll save a HUGE amount if you have all the orders shipped to one location.

I checked the code you gave me and we can make that one. We have access to most of the older codes as well. You can send a list before placing the order and we can confirm which codes that might have any issues. Just let me know when you’re ready.

The code I gave him was my car Anthracite Black LQW.

I propose a cut off date of 9th June for people wishing to add themselves to the list. I will then email them with the list to check colour code availability and go from there.

3rd June 2008, 09:10
Any idea of the cost yet?

I have emailed them about Pearl Black (PBT) and they confirmed that they can make this colour also.

JohnDotCom
3rd June 2008, 09:19
Mark, if you order it all in one Package you may well find you will get hit by Customs for VAT and Import duty.
I would check first, just a suggestion.
I often have problems with stuff from States even when carrying it back in!

MGOracle
3rd June 2008, 09:50
Will check but I might get it shipped to an address I have there and collect when I swing over next or get it sent as a "gift" :)

I think Kit price (available on their site) less 10% and then the saving through P&P hopefully.

13 road rash kits - including me

1 standard kit

Road rash kits are $62.20 each

Standard kit is $53.60

So with current rates and my delivery to you guys, can we say £37 for road rash kits and £32 for the standard kits.

Just waiting for their payment options then I will proceed.

Please DO NOT send me any money yet. I will add back here when I know how they want payment.

This list generated here is final. Therefore I would be grateful if I am NOT left with any kits.

I will accept Paypal or Cheque, but if paying by cheque, your kit will not be sent until it has cleared.

I'll keep you all posted.

That's a very pertinent observation Eamonn. There may well be a liability for import duty and the VAT on the total amount, so best to check with Customs.

There may well be a liability for import duty and the VAT on the total amount, so best to check with Customs.Yep, probably best to work out what the duty would be now and divide it up between the members so it can be included in the payment.

The charge could always be refunded in the happy event of no customs charges.

Without trying to teach MGOracle how to suck eggs :), he should also make sure to include an extra charge to cover Paypal fees. I was caught out with that myself :(.

I don't know how it works in the UK, but I have found that it always best to have stuff sent from the States via USPS. In Ireland, all USPS packets are delivered at this end via the Postal Service who charge €5/£3.50 for the privilege of collecting the customs charges.

Fedex/DHL etc can charge an "administration" fee of up to €30 for the same service .

Hi, just a quick message for MG Oracle, I see the kits are on their way.
Am i right in assuming that you are receiving them all at yours and then distributing them out to us ???
If so, I am going away on holiday for a week on friday night and will be back the following saturday.
If you are about to send them out to us could you hold off on mine until the back end of the week so i have chance to get back home before they try to deliver it to me..

RockingPaul - I spoke to him via email and have sent his kit.

Anybody managed to try their kit yet, Bigruss and I got ambushed by the weather today. I plan to clay the bonnet , then apply the procedure. Is that the correct way or should I clay afterwards ??

Dave, I would be inclined to clay first then use the kit otherwise you may undo your good work.
Only problem is the kit states not to wax it afterwards for about 3 days, so your car may not be as shiny for the meet on Sunday :D
Guess we'll have to just aviod those bits.

But first we need some good weather to get it done!!!!!!!!! ;)

Am thinking of taking the kit to the meet, then some of the others can see how it works and the results (if it doesn't rain again)

used my Dr Colorchip today and am very impressed with the results.

I tried both methods -
1) dabbing each and every part of the road rash with the paint and then rubbing it off with the Sealact, and also

2) putting the paint on a rag and smearing it over the rash and then cleaning with the Sealact.

Number 1 is the best option in my opinion as you use less paint and cleaner, it might seem tedious going over every spot but it cleans off quicker that way.

With the number 2 method it applies the paint quicker but you then have more paint smeared on which takes longer to get off and as said you use more paint and cleaner that way.

I first of all cleaned off the paint after 2 minutes as it says but after a while i was leaving it on a lot longer than that and the cleaner fetched it off, admittingly with a bit of encouragement.

Overall a simple but great product, the results on mine are really good, i did take some pics but noty turned out very well i am afraid.

If you bought one of these kits but havent used it because of earlier posts on the subject, go for it is my advice.

I can only asume Ray was unfortunate enough to have a duff sample when he tried his.

I reckon i can do my whole car with my road rash kit, and still have some left for future touch ups.

I am also going to try a small area using my MG Rover touch up paint and the Sealact cleaner tomorrow, if that works we would only need to resource the Sealact and the job would become cheaper to do.

Good to hear that Rob,

It was always the sealact that will be in short supply and will be exhausted long before the paint. We need to scource the sealact if we can.
Now, where is Bigruss when you need him ..........;)

Tried using the Rover touch up paint today with the Dr Colorchip Sealact and it works just fine.

I didnt expect there to be any difference in the paint but wanted to try and make sure, so all we need now is a source for the Sealact or another product that will do the same thing.

Another tip to make the Sealact go further is use the same rag, as it soon gets impregnated with the sealact and so you use a little less each time, i have done 90% of my car and still have 50% of the Sealact left, if you also keep the rag in a sealed container it will remain moist for the next time you need it.

Tried using the Rover touch up paint today with the Dr Colorchip Sealact and it works just fine.Thats interesting, Rob.

I understood that the Colourchip paint was "special" in some way and that the Sealact reacted with it to remove/dry it?

i have also read an independant review of the product which says its not compatible with your usual touch up but all i an say is it worked with mine.

There is enough of the paint supplied by Dr Colorchip to be honest but i was thinking of a money saver for future use.

Hello all,

I know i am resurecting an old thread here but what are the chances of starting another group buy for something like this.

I have a bit of gravel rash and a few scratches that need repaired and would rather try some thing like this rather than go down the respray route just now.

I take that means that it didn't work very well. What about chipex http://www.chipex.co.uk/ has anybody tried that?

i would go with Dave's advice, i was part of the original group buy too and although it works if you have road rash on your front end ( easy ! ) then its not really the answer tbh

not tried it and its £50 and you are well on your way to a respray for a small area at that money.

If you can get hold of someone with a machine polisher then you can use your touch up paint mixed 50/50 with lacquer to fill the chip with a cocktail stick end or similar, then rub flat with fine wet and dry and machine polish out the scratches

Well that will lead me onto my next question......
Anybody in the Glasgow (preferably Dumbarton) area with a machine polisher and some knowhow who would like to earn some beer tokens?;);)
