Hi All

I'm going to be driving in France for a week in the summer.

Does anybody know how to convert the beam on the headlights??

The kits I have seen seem to be for square headlights only.

Regards

Colin

Dependant on your headlights,If you have Standard H.L turn the wheel on the dash to lower the lights. If you have the other sort (Halogen I think) there is a lever on the rear of the lamp that will allow you to level the top part of the beam so as not to interfer with on coming traffic.

And before any says you must fit beam deflectors when you come to the UK from France there are NO notices saying you must fit Beam Deflectors when driving on the left.Unlike when you leave the UK for France where there are notices everywhere claiming you need to buy them before you go at over inflated prices at the port.;)

The projectors have a lever to flatten the beam pattern, halogens will need a deflector fitting I think:shrug::}

Just use some black sticky tape on the wedge shaped bits just left of centre.
This takes out the high bit of the beam used in Britain to read road signs to the left. This is the bit that dazzles in France and the tape blocks it out.

You need Eurolite Beam Adapter/Deflectors search on ebay and you will find plenty to choose from, they will only cost you about £3 inc p&p. You only use the circle bit, there are full instructions included, I use them all the time and they work perfectly.
Bon voyage

if driving on an unlit road in the dark you are not doing yourself any favours from tuning the headlights downwards.

I need to fit these Eurolite Beam Adaptors tomorrow (next month I will be putting my projector headlamps into this car!) ... does anyone have any photos of theirs fitted so I don't have to faff around (in the rain) figuring out where to stick these silly things?

Thanks!

On my MK1 I recall this being clearly shown by lines in on the lamp clusters. I thought it was also shown in the manual. I know I took my 1999 Club across France in 2000 and used black tape cut to fit the marks on the lamps. Looked for a pic but its predigital so not on my computer:o

I'll check to see if its in the manual - if it is will sculpt some black duck tape instead of the eurolites ....

Thanks :)

Eurolite beam defectors are usually available from onboard ferry shops (at least they were on DFDS ferries). Possibly also from the shop at Eurotunnel too? They come in LHD and RHD versions with instructions. Stick them on when waiting to disembark. Check them out here on Travelspots (http://www.travelspot.co.uk/product-eurolites.html) website. They will cost around £7-8 though and unfortunately not reusable.

Thanks, I actually got a set from Halfords (£5 I think) - would prefer the black tape I think. Its OK to fit them from now - will only reduce light levels somewhat (but - hope - to be travelling in the UK in daylight anyway! delays to Dover permitting!)

Hi

Could you please have a look at the thumbnail pics I posted recently and confirm the tape goes on the wedge shape section that is slightly clearer than the rest of the headlamp and on the left hand side as I look at the front of the car or from the drivers seat?? also is it put on the same place on both nearside and offside headlamps??

I can't find any info in owners handbook or Haynes manual??

Pls excuse my ignorance but your help is appreciated.

Thanks

Oh yes they are - just keep a roll of sellotape handy. ;)

I've used the same pair for a couple of years now, and regularly drive to work in Europe. :D

The OPPOSITE side to where you have the tape in the picture. ( correct lamps though. ;) )

The same side on BOTH lamps. ( The left as you look from in front of the car. )

I just did mine - I used duck tape - used silver as I didn't have black :)

Aye, that's the way I did mine.

Looking at the car from the front, the stickers should be on the left hand side of each outer lamp.

It looks completely wrong when you do it, but my guess is the shape of the reflectors throw the light from right to left and vice versa.

Perhaps, but they do leave a sticky film and I suppose I was being misleading in giving the impression they were used on a Rover. They were not. In fact they were used on a Fiat Croma MkII which has projector headlamps like a Fiat Bravo. These are are large swept back poycarbonate and sticking sellotape all over them would be a mess. Eurolite also say and whether its true or not I do not know but quote; "Anti-Scorch Technology using Heat Mirror foils - ensures the extra heat / light generated by Xenon HID / projector headlamps is reflected back into the headlamp to optimise the beam pattern and prevent scorching to modern polycarbonate headlamps".
If that is true using black tape, gaffer tape etc might not be such a good idea depending on how long they stay on. Ours needs to be on for about 2 months.
All answers on a postcard pls!

I read somewhere that black tape has been deemed illegal by some French Coppers, no idea if it is true or not.

As for using sellotape to re-use the old ones - all the residue comes off cleanly with cheap glue remover no problem at all. :D

Never been stopped or told it's illegal in 30 years of use by me in France, Belgium, Holland or Italy, Germany and Luxembourg. I suppose there is always a first time!!!!!!
