Engine management light staying on

Hi all.

Need a wee bit advice.

On wednesday night i gave my engine bay a nice wee clean (Autoglym Engine/Machine cleaner) let it sit for a minute, then a light spraying of water to wash it off.

I dried the top of the engine cover and the manifold intake and dressed with a nice dressing and the engine looked superb.

However tonight i started my car and reversed it out the garage to polish the bodywork and there was a slight misfire and the engine management light is staying on.

I suspect maybe some water has got down one or more of the plugholes.

Would this cause the misfire ?

Tried to take the coil pack cover off the engine but the 3 nuts that hold it on were too tight.

Sounds like water got somewhere it isn't supposed to, did you let the engine warm up, get a bit of heat to dry things out?

Tried to take the coil pack cover off the engine but the 3 nuts that hold it on were too tight.

I could be mistaken on this but:
If the engine management light is triggered it stays on until the fault code is cleared OR it starts and number of times (possibly 5) without the fault present when it will clear itself.
So if the misfire has gone and all else seems well I would just try a number of starts.

From the manual
"If ‘Check engine’ illuminates, and the car drives normally:
Contact your local dealer to arrange a service appointment at
your earliest convenience - YOU MAY STILL DRIVE THE
CAR.
If ‘Check engine’ flashes and/or the car does not drive
normally: Avoid high speeds and seek immediate assistance
from your dealer."

So if it isn't flashing I would see if it clears itself.

I took the car to a local specialist who has diagnosed a faulty coil pack lead, the engine management light flashed on and off and the car did run a bit lumpy.

The car is currantly at the specialist (Scotts of Haddington) and a new coil pack has been ordered and they should have the car ready for tomorrow (Sat)

At least i know what it is now.

Failing that come along here in the Yaris Sunday morning and come with me.

Wee update on car.

They have replaced a coil pack and dried out some water that was in a plug recess and the car runs perfectly again.

Had my air-con serviced as well, everything ok.
