My 29 year old son passed away on the 1st April this year and has left me his 2004 MG ZT 220s which he loved with a passion, I think he now part owns Rimmerbros UK. I have undertaken the task of repairing replacing and fixing all those things he didn't have the strength to do as the cancer took hold. I have worked out many things but need help on this one. The front bumper had to be removed to complete a few repairs and laying one on either side were 2 pieces of foam. I do not know how to add a picture at this stage but can anyone explain what they are where they go please. This is the first time on this forum for me so please forgive me if I'm not in the right area or am doing this wrong. Thanking you in advance.

They are placed behind the matching part of the front plastic bumper and are in contact with the "armature" which is the strengthening piece bolted across the front of the vehicle. Bolts go into the two arms on either side of the engine. You may find the use of adhesive tape to hold the foam in place.

Hi, the foam inserts should fit the shape of the bumper and act as an impact cushion.

My sympathies to you and your family. I know these words will come as little comfort to your loss, but hopefully, you will find advice and guidance from this forum to help you finish his work.

I cannot find the link, but there is a 'how to' to add photos. I am sure everyone here would like to see it, especially as it is a very rare and desirable model.

The foam I found easiest to fit to the inside of the bumper, as you reattach it to the car, especially if there are headlight washer jets. They sit quite neatly and snugly to the inside of the bumper, that it will be obvious where they go. A small piece of tape to hold them in place as you reattach the bumper will help stop them falling out.

Found a link to guide you for photographs.

and this link HERE (http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=340500&postcount=1) gives some suggestions of things to check, or do, whilst bumper is off (if they are not already done)

When I replaced my cooling fan a few weeks ago, I knew I'd forget where these foam pieces went, so took a couple of pics to remind me:

They fit at the bottom, either side of the fan cowling. Hopefully you can see the orientation from the photos.

Hope this helps,

Cliff

Interesting. I recently took my bumper off for the first time since the car was new, but it doesn't have these particular bits of foam. The two pieces that squash either side of the fan I replaced with sealed cell neoprene. This doesn't saturate in the rain. The ones on the steering fliuid cooler were never there.

Thanks Cliff, these were just stuffed in near the wheel arc my guess is when my son had the mesh grill replaced the guy who did it just tossed them in. I want to restore this classy vehicle in his honour and want to do it correctly. I will have new one cut in the morning from HD Foam. Again thanks heap for the pictures and the quick reply. I think this site is going to be my saviour.
