When I open a door a motor switches on?? Only got car yesterday, seems to run well, but concerned about this. It runs for 30 secs or so.

Is it when you open the door or turn the ignition off? There is a motor on the heater system that can be heard moving when turning the ignition off

It is when I open a door, or use the remote unlocking

Could it be a door locking motor has broken off the 'lock'?

No, the motor noise is under the bonnet on left side of engine, looking towards front from inside.

Is there something needing to be done to the FBH?

Some good suggestions already, but I've expanded your thread title to better illustrate the subject matter, this may attract more replies :}

Thanks for this. The noise I am hearing suggests that something is wrong?? What could be causing the motor to start, and what needs to be done to solve the problem. As mentioned, car is running fine, so I could just ignore this and enjoy the car. Thanks for any suggestions.

Your signature does not state details of your car.
The suggestion that the problem being associated with the Fuel Burning heater would only be possible if your car is a diesel.

Is it :shrug:

PS, if it is a diesel, have a read here http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=100297&highlight=fbh+fuse

Remove fuse #8 under the bonnet, if that stops the motor I think you might have found the problem.

Further investigation! The motor running is labelled Webasco, it is pulling air in from a pipe. It fires up when I open door, tailgate, or push the remote unlocking, so no key in ignition.

Sorry to be so uninformed, I knew a lot about my P6!

Is this meant to switch on like this, or do I have a problem that needs attention?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Also I am struggling to use the forums, is there an idiot's guide anywhere?

Welcome to the club, I don't think there is an idiots guide mind you I would probably find that useful:}

Have a look at the How To Forums :smilie_re:here (http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=28) - lots of good advice

Also lots of fixes for common issues here (http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=67019)

If in doubt, shout out:}

Thanks, I have been trawling through threads, but as yet not found one that describes my problem, if it is a problem. I realise that I can take the fuse out to stop the Webasco thing, but that would stop it working all the time. What does it do and how important is it?

There's a lot in here but not always easy to find until you know your way around :}
I think this is what you are looking for

Faults and Issues
If the FBH is triggered into life when a door is opened, or at other times when you would not expect the FBH to run, or your battery goes flat, or other things on the car misbehave - cut and insulate each end of the K-bus wire at the FBH 6 pin plug, this is the white/ red/ yellow wire. It serves no useful purpose and can cause issues, so worth disconnecting whether there are problems or not. Make sure the cut wire can easily be reconnected if needed, because it can cause issues when a T4 is used and the T4 cannot see the FBH on the K-bus.

Oh yes, and if you are lucky you'll also have a remote control for it and a timer in the centre arm rest!

Enjoy the ride and give my regards to Ventnor :}
