I 'detailed' the car today. Not properly like the pros, but as good as I could given the equipment and products.

Started with a wash using good old Turtle Wax and clayed the car at the same time using Megs Gold Class Clay bar kit. Dont use their lube, this isn't aggressive clay it's very mild and works a treat with water. So far, it has been the only thing that has taken off stubborn tree sap and bird lime from my rear bumper and spoiler. The amount of in paint grime was astonishing!

Rinsed well and dried with Megs Water Magnet, nice to use but not as absorbent or as large as the waffle weave jobbies.

Out came the SRP from Autoglym, applied by cheapo halford polisher and buffed off by hand then applied some Super Gloss Protection from AG as well.

Tyres were treated to Blackfire tyre gel which lasts about 4 - 6 weeks.

Here are some pics

Removal of swirl marks even with AG SRP. I had a bike carrier on the rear last year and caused all kinds of marks and scratches and marred the paint quite badly.

Boot Lid, showing the metallic flakes rather nicely

And lastly, a pimp shot showing a polished rear light cluster :)

Looks good, done similar with mine recently, but used Autobalm by hand on the swirl marks. A few more applications I reckon I'll have them licked..............

Re the bike rack, that's the main reason I've fitted the towbar, I have a Paddy Hopkirk towball mounted rack, which is so easy to fit, takes literally a couple of seconds, and which still allows access to the boot. I had a strap-on one (oo-er missus) which was OK on a flat/solid painted car, as the marks T-cut out, but I ruined the bootlid on my 827 Sterling with it. So never again.

I agree, clean cars do go better!

Pfft! Charming!

Depends, are you looking at the border or the reflection OF the border :D

One thing to note about AG SRP is that it really is exactly what it says, only a resin. Its slightly abrasive but really wont last that long. Saving up for a PC and some proper kit.

You have achieved a lovely finish :) I'm rather surprised someone spotted a weed when there was a Rover 75 in the picture :D

A lot of hard work gone into cleaning your car and the pics show just how spectacular the finished job can be with a bit of effort, looks great.

Looks very good. Black cars are a nightmare to keep clean and get a good finish!

I have been trying snow foam as a pre-treatment before washing and that works well as it removes lose "grit" and helps stop scratches/swirl marks that back cars suffer from. Also have to say that Collinite 845 wax works wonders too. Easy to put on and take off.

My "black car" method is now:-

1. Snow foam
2. Rinse (after 5 mins)
3. Wash with Megures NXT car wash
4. Rinse
5. Dry with microfibre cloth
6. Autoglym Aqua wax - quick polish
7. Collinite 845 wax to finish

i had just brought some collinite wax to use on the v8, once back from holiday wamd weather permiting i'll give it a go, the car is currently covered with AG aqua wax which i was impressed with, although the collinite won the auto expresses wax award.

MGoracle / Mark

That is lovely !!

I use AG Products and basically follow the:

SRP / Gloss Finish / Wax - same as you

Car shines like the sun, even when it is filthy (Lowedb confirmed this after commenting how clean my car looked when he saw it in Stafford, although it was covered in Dust and cat prints at the time !!)

Anyway, that is one fine looking job and I personally love nothing more than a clean reflection in the paintwork of a car, and yours has it :D

Now, what you doing next saturday? Gordon needs another going over.....:p:

I have to say the finish with the Collinite is far better than the Aqua Wax. I did my brother in laws balck Honda Civic on Sunday and he was well impressed too.

Of all the waxes I tried, the Collinite 476 was certainly the best for out and out shine.
