Hi all I changed my passenger rear hub today (bearing was shot) also did my rear discs and pads. Now my ABS light stays on. So I am guessing I messed up somewhere. :duh:

Any pointers, The hub is a OEM-Q from DMGRS so I know its a good'un

Thanks

Chris

Did you touch the ABS sensor at all?

I know the fronts have to be the right way round, but I think the rear hub is integrated with the bearing so can't be put in the wrong way.

I gave the sensor (that sits behind the hub) a quick wipe over to clean it of dust

What state are the backplates in? I found some big flakes of rust came loose and damaged my sensor. As youve been working around there is it possible you may have disturbed some rust?

Looking in haynes book it's called a magnetic reluctor ring that fits inner face so yes should be left on.

How it is:

The Brown ring is the magnetic side

Yep just spoke to DMGRS and your right I should of left it on. The hub I pulled off did not have it so I took it off thinking it was a protective cover :duh:

If the weather holds off I'll fix it tomorrow. I am a plank sometimes!!

The instruction leaflet I got with my replacement bearings actually mentioned removing the protective cover before fitting, but like yours it wasn't on there. :getmecoat:

What is that gold ring doing? Bearings i have replaced didnt have anything like that. not sure how it affects the sensor pick up. The distance from the sensor to the ring looks to be set by the inner bearing race, so the presence or otherwise of the gold bit i wouldnt have thought would cause an abs fault. Might cause grease leakage or something, or does it secure the magnetic ring in place?

If it makes you feel any better i would probably have removed it as well, so youve done us a favour bringing it to our attention. If you get a chance maybe post a photo of it with the gold ring removed so we can understand whats going on a bit better.

Different manufacturers have different ways of adding the magnetic reluctor ring for the ABS.

With the original bearings they were built in, but some aftermarket bearings have them attached to the inner bearing face, in this case by the gold ring.
