I want to do an oil change on my sons car. the sump plug is a blessed torx fitting.

Do I buy
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-55661-55mm-2-inch-Drive-Star-Socket/dp/B0002BUXXG/ref=sr_1_4?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1449925436&sr=1-4&keywords=t45+torx+bit

or the much cheaper

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-52824-16-Inch-Shot-Blasted-Screwdriver/dp/B0002BUVMO/ref=sr_1_5?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1449924555&sr=1-5&keywords=t45+torx+bit

Halfords have this
http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/sockets-accessories/teng-tpx45-torx-pinned-security-socket-bit-3-8in-drive-7-5mm but the sum does not have a pin in the middle

the first one is more of a quality product but do I really need such quality for a couple of oil changes at best? Do Rover 75's or 25's use a torx 45?

Really tempted to get the Draper cheaper ones, a pair for £3...value for money

In the past when I have wanted a tool, this is more need then want but when I have wanted and needed a tool I have gone for quality. In time I then find other uses for the tool.
Circular saw just to cut 1 work surface, 20 years about £175
Right angle drill for 1 hole, £135
compound mitre saw to cut skirting board in bedroom £460

I would like but don't need a paslode nail gun and an SDS hammer drill

More cars are using torx fittings these days so you may be better off buying a set.

I had to buy mine in a hurry, there is only one car parts or tools supplier within many miles of me, and this is all they had

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAPER-78277-TORX-BIT-SET-15-PIECE-MECHANICS-TX-STAR-1-2-DRIVE-T20-TO-T55-/151752161528?hash=item23552238f8:g:hCgAAOSwu4BVrNx a

It's proved to be an excellent buy. The bits have been used and abused and still work very well.

Have a hunt around on ebay and you may find a cheaper set - my link was to the first set I could find that was identical to mine.

I had to buy a set of torque bits about 15 years ago to repair a Ford sierra I had at the time.

Yes, I did resent having to buy a DRAPER set, for just one size,as that was all I could get. But as time goes on I find myself using them more and more.

Also buy the best you can afford as they are an investment for life. The young guy next door whos just started motoring has been buying "cheep" tools and they are forever failing - I think hes taken my advice at last and buy quality only - I did point out to him that I've still got some of the sockets from when I bought my first motorbike at sixteen ...... 40 plus years ago !

There's a lot of torx fasteners on the 75 so it is worth investing in a set. I was recently lucky enough to get a set of the Halfords professional 3/8" drive security bits via Ebay for only £7.50 :D. Still got a set of right angle torx keys and some assorted torx bits as well (sometimes you need long reach like on the steering wheel airbag). Here's the cheapest I can find at the moment for the same +rail.

P.S. The maplin set of 'star' keys are here (they're torx) at £6.99

As said, these Torx head screws are appearing more and more so I bought this set when I needed just a T50.

I've had it a couple of years and they seem to be reasonable quality, (one or two have had some right stick on the farm :icon_rolleyes:).
