Removing the gearbox.all went well.inspected clutch,and looks ok,and also slave looks ok i think.its an ap one so dont know what quality is like really.how can you tell a knackered slave by looking at it?

ive just finished the very same thing.first time on a mg.mine fell apart in my hand and if ive got the box out ive renewed everthing.

If it's got oil on the outside of the slave cylinder, fit a new one.

If you have taken the gearbox out then change the slave, unless it has been done recently. :D

Yeah i reckon its pretty recent,and theres no oil around it or anything,so think i shall leave alone.;)

I'd replace it for piece of mind. If possible use OEM. You've got the 'box out so you might as well!

If you cant afford metal tazu, chuck this in.

I did exactly the same as you and reused the LUK one, got 10k out of it and still going. However it now has a noise on release bearing and for the sake of less than 50 quid wish I had changed it. I do know where your comming from about keeping price down, depends how much more mileage you want out of car.
