Rover 75 Back Box Gone

Just been into a local garage to see about my blowing exhaust and the guy says it's still the original one

The car is a 2003 Rover 75, so it's done well, but the guy says aa there's no joints in it I have to buy the whole thing, which will not be cheap :(

Is he right, or just trying to get some more business

Is there a way of just getting the back box and fitting it without getting the whole thing

I had a back box go and just that part was replaced not the whole thing? I'm sure Rimmers show it as a separate part

How did you join it if there's no joints?

I don't know because I didn't do it myself.

Back box isn't dear. My original was replaced last month due to a blow. I purchased a Klarius one from euro car parts and it's a great fit and very quiet too. Only about £70.

Ive just done this job. I bought an exhaust off e-bay - super cheapo (£31 delivered) but it wasnt an easy fit and is very close to the floor so it rattles occasionally against the towbar and anti-roll bar. I had to cut the original pipe at the requisite point using a special pipe cutting tool - not the best - took ages and eventually got hacked off and resorted to the angle grinder and hacksaw. Real PITA.

Probably easier to get a better fitting pipe, but the cut & join would still be required. My old box seemed fine although it looked scabby. Took it off and it was blowing at the top anyway so had to go.

is your 75 a diesel or petrol? not sure about the petrol models but the diesel exhaust is all one piece from the manifold to the back box with no joints. Not sure about availability of OEM back boxes, but a lot of members have gone down the route of fitting a custom stainless steel back box with downpipes just like the OEM backbox, opting for the OEM sound level (quietest level) and having it fitted by the exhaust shop. They just cut the old back box off and weld the new one on.

As was posted before petrol or diesel? The aftermarket on a v6 is awful sounding with a real drone but fine on a diesel. Both of them look wrong on our lovely cars, the big rolled can doesnt look right.

Both require cutting the original and the end of the new section is flared to fit over original then clamped. Diesel cut is half way along car near gearstick area (ish) and petrol is at the back on most I've seen.

I ripped the aftermarket off my v6 as it was so noisy and had a stainless made up. Still a rolled type but hung up so it's almost invisible.

Edit my 1.8t had a pressed type but couldn't find one for my diesel or v6... all the cheaper type and not paying through the nose.
