just wondered , ive just changed the intercooler "o" rings. there was only 1 "o" ring left and that was no good. will this improve the mpg on my auto 2.0cdt .. which since a 160 remap is approx. 36mpg :}

I cannot really vouch for any mpg gains from this, but I would be concerned that only 1 seal was recovered. Normally one seal will drop inside the intercooler neck and float in the pool of oil usually found at the base of the cooler interior, the other seal usually hangs on to the plastic neck as the neck is withdrawn. I would be a bit weary of driving it to be fair unless you know for sure the seal you saw was indeed the only one on the system.

sorry yes meant there was only one left in situ the other was out side on the pipe

Result ! Otherwise it would be a risky business with one seal floating around in the pressured side of the system !
The performance should be a bit livelier than before assuming the seals were leaking, mpg may change with the more willing engine performance, but time will tell.

If yours were leaking badly, you'll gain economy - there'll be less air making it to the combustion chamber with a leak, and thus the car will run rich with smoke.

The MAF will meter all the air going into the system too - and of course has no idea a lot of it is escaping down the line!

Since Artic replaced the O ring on my ZTT last Sunday with the modified three O rings unit it has transformed the driving ecperience if my ZTT as the iriginal O ring myst of been leaking quite badly. I will have to check the mpg now and compare it to the mpg that I used to achieve with the old O ring.

All of the seal changes I have done work perfectly with the original 2 seals fitted as intended. I do the whole job with headlamp removed etc, this allows the tube to be fitted right first time, and less importantly - the oiled up areas are cleaned thoroughly, this includes the cooler elbows upper and lower, both hoses, the removed elbow, the chassis rail and headlamp casing. This allows the owner to check for any further problems in the future, but never had one need re-doing by using the correct number of seals, or butchering the original by adding a self tapping screw to stop the elbow popping off.

36mpg is quite poor, unless its round town. Hopefully it should do better now, but there are other things which can affect consumption, if you have not checked them?

Hi Clyde
Yes all the O-ring bends fitted at the nano meet will be the three ringed version these are FOC including the Viton O-rings and fitting which is under taken from the top 10 minute job as you know, now you have seen them fitted when I showed you, so it should not be long before you can carry this out at meets you go to as you get to a few more meets than me, remind me to pass on the link for the O-rings to you if you want it ;)
