Hi guys

Looking to get the gearbox oil changed on the diesel saloon. Is it MTF94 that these cars take? If so, where is the best place to get some from? Halfords don't seem to stock them any longer. Thanks.

I hope not to cause an argument here, but I know Capese21 always recommended paying the extra few ££'s and getting the 'proper' stuff from Rimmer bros.
Have a look thru previous articles, you will see there has been some relatively vigorous debating on what we should/can use.

I've used Texaco MTF94 both times I changed the gearbox oil. 14€/1L bottle.

"Proper" stuff from Rimmerbros: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-VYK000010 (even cheaper than the above)
Would have bought this myself if it hadn't been the additional shipping charge.

Try Land Rover specialists - they often stock it to use on the Freelanders

Ravinder, Short answer is yes MTF94 for these (Manual) boxes. I would just search on the Tinternet for "Best Price" MTF94, it's usually the best option. :}

Arctic, That's a handy gadget for the oil change, worth an investment if it's a regular job for someone, I only ever did 2 on my Rover 25 TDI and VVC so used a funnel with some garden water hose, got the job done, oh I don't know who torqued up the drain plug on my 25's but boy were they tight!!!! :duh:

Many thanks guys. I've ordered two litres of the stuff from Rimmers and ordered a couple of other bits that I needed anyway.

Arctic, that pump looks very useful. I may invest in one of those too.

Curiousity, do the auto boxes use the same oil?

Many thanks.
