I have just bought a second hand set of alloys and unfortunately one of them is damaged.

This shows the wheel before I cleaned the damaged spot:

This is how the area looks after I cleaned it with isopropyl and got the tyre black (or whatever it was) off:

Would something like this fix the problem?:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110279043206&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123. Some of the marks are quite deep so I would probably also need to buy some filler.

I have read MGOracle's refurb thread but this is obviously a much smaller job. I don't know how much a "professional" would charge to fix it, but probably more than the wheel is worth!

Hi Eamonn,

Have you read the post by MGOracle, it might give you some tips :)

Companies like Chips away will charge £50.00 per wheel dependant on how badly damaged. There are cheaper companies but I think you have to deliver your wheels leave them, whereas CA will come to you.
Certainly this looks like a reasonable cost way of repairing. Make sure the paint is Silver Sparkle before purchase.
I would suggest trying to fill with the material supplied but if the marks are too deep then a filler will be needed.

I have no intention of paying anything like £50 for the repair. The alloys were meant to be in good condition so this is an expected expense.

I have emailed this Seller of that kit and he said that the paint is a generic MGR alloy wheel colour.

Are all our alloys Silver Sparkle?. I think the part numbers from Xpart are:

AWZ101830MNH Pencil
AWZ101840MNH Spray

i used a national company that came to the house to refurb a couple of wheels on swmbos TF ( Revive ) They were wet painted and after a few months the paint was coming off again, i did get a full refund from Revive to be fair so put it towards a proper job and had them powder coated at a local firm for £65 a wheel and well worth it.

I only paid £100 for the set, Rob, so I'm not going to spend a whole lot on the damaged one.

I just bought them to have a change from my forked alloys. I hadn't banked on having to repair one of them :(.

Bad news on the repair kit, I'm afraid. The colour is completely off - its a flat silver instead of the metallic "Silver Sparkle".

I have emailed the Seller to see what they say, but its likely I'll just have to buy the MGR touch up pen.

The rest of the kit is OK, however. I'll post a few pics later on.

Can't see much difference once painted on...the advantage is you can get it as a touch-up paint rather than a spray can...which was all I could find for Silver Sparkle....

Rimmers seem to have the Silver Sparkle touch up pencil (AWZ101830MNH) in stock.

I'll wait and see what the ebay Seller has to say.....

The eBay Seller has been in contact and said he has a second colour to try. Hopefully its a better match.

I forgot to post how this turned out.

The Seller could not match the Silver Sparkle - despite 3 different paint samples. He stopped replying to me in the end :(

So anyhoo, looks like I'll have to get the proper Silver Sparkle paint pencil.
