As a project I guess it stalled like most projects

The car is MOT'd and taxed, and has been mechanically serviced. It needs significant bodywork refurbishment as all panels have lacquer peel, rust or paint scratches.

It is in the hands of Christopher as to how what and when said cosmetic work gets done.

Yep too true...mine is no longer a project and all of my plans and dreams for how it was supposed to be have well and truly stalled with some ideas (such as a roof conversion to add a sunroof and full interior change) have been totally removed from the list.

I'm just happy that it runs fine these days and will plod on fixing it up in no particular hurry. I have spent far too much time fiddling with it and now just want to enjoy driving it lol.

Still very much around - I saw it only a few weeks ago safely under the care of, and under the roof of, a specialist Rover garage where I'd taken my car in for some work.

Just looking through you tube and was watching "rover 75 electrical systems-multiplexing (1999)" (as you do) and lo and behold what car is hooked up to a T-4, yes S525 OVP. Must get back to it the narrators voice is sending me to sleep.

So I decided to walk back from the shop a different way today and there was S525 OVP parked up not five minutes from my house! It looks a state. Fair enough keep the dents and scratches it gathered from its Rover days but at least wash the poor thing. It's turning green.

But at least it's still around I suppose. Any idea who's looking after it now? It was parked with another 75 in dark red with a BX51 reg, possibly suggesting it was registered straight from the factory too. It looked equally unloved, rather dirty with a space saver on the front.

I'm wondering if it now lives five minutes from me or if it was just visiting. I shall have to that way more often.

I'd add pictures but I'm not sure how to, there seem to no obvious links.

Thank you for your observations :)

Both cars are owned by Christopher who is a club director. BX51 in Copperleaf Red, he brought back from Malta. He did a big write up on that trip which you contributed to.

I don't know who is looking after them, if I may suggest, you pm Christopher if he is happy for you to post up photos of his 75's. You could be lucky in arranging a meet with the keeper for a guided tour with tea and biscuits. Have fun :)

Ahhh, thanks. I may have done, that was a while ago! Nice to see its still in the right hands. I was just a little surprised to see it so close to home, I'll have to go round that way more often. It could still do with a wash though.

Well it does happen that when cars are left out in the open to the elements, they can become unkempt looking. I had a similar experience....I am out in Africa at the moment and another member, unknowingly posted up a comment of my S reg, as looking abandoned and covered in leaves and BS....... LOL

One of the forum gurus is looking after LJW and had parked it under a tree, across the road from where another member lives.

Thats how it goes ;) and as you said, all that is needed is a good wash.

Have a great weekend....Happy Easter to you and the family :)

There is another forum who are actually buying cars and getting them back in to a condition to be proud of. I've been a member on here since 2014 I beland still waiting for this car to be repaired, repairing and preserving cars should be a priority surely, is this not what the forum is about ??

Good morning Les, you raise valid points. I can't offer any comments about OVP's restoration, as the one who is in the know is Christopher. Perhaps he might be able to bring us up to date when he sees this. OVP is a very special S reg with bundles of history and personality in my opinion. Members still hold interest because of this :)

As for this club saving cars, restoring and preserving them, is a subject which has been discussed before several times. Did you want to start a new thread about it? ;)

Good morning Philip, as you stated it's been discussed before. Seeing as OVP is a really special car I think Christopher or the Owners Club should really make more effort to get this car back to a presentable condition and keep the Club informed as to progress. As I mentioned another forum can do it and they do it without the resources this forum has and they keep the members better informed. I'm not into criticising people or forum members so I hope the people in charge see this as an opportunity to reply to members and keep us informed as to progress "progress" being the issue here

I'm absolutely fascinated by OVP and glad it's within the club even though it needs work cosmetically. There have been many discussions over the years as to fully restore or leave as is, I'm in the fully restore camp. Christopher is extremely busy due to the work he does so I would guess his free time is limited and whilst the car is maintained mechanically there are no plans I'm aware of for anything more at the moment

Thank you Les for those thoughts and thank you Mark for advising us about Christopher's very busy schedule and OVP. It's very expensive to restore an S reg and bring it up to a standard similar to when it left the factory. It was built on 03 October 1998. With LJW, I have spent thousands of pounds keeping it on the road and looking presentable. Some might say I am mad to do this, but it can't be helped :) I am still feeling positive about OVP. Its dents and appearance is all part of its history. Only time will tell, how the rest of the story goes :)

There are a lot of trees round there and they do make a difference. My bus is in a yard surrounded by trees and it slowly turns green over the winter.

I don't know if OVP is there regularly. Like I say, it's only five minutes away but I don't normally go that way. I will do so more often now. I think Reebs is over Hedge End way about six miles from here so I don't think it's him unless he's visiting.

As for 'restoration' I'm one of the leave it alone brigade. It has a few knocks and scratches but most of those will have happened within Longbridge. You can't buy history like that.

I was just pleased to see it's still around.

Thanks for this Ian. The first one you've listed does indeed look like a dealer launch car. I cannot check the second one without a registration number.

As for the debate on OVP, whenever repairs and/or restoration are required on any other car, after many views are aired the conclusion is nearly always:

"It's the owner's car so it's up to them what they do with it"
"The work costs more than the car is worth"

Perhaps we should be considering why these principles don't seem to apply to Christopher and OVP?

Nice to see OVP spotted :) you'll be pleased to know it's running taxed MOTed and insured and used quite regularly - it is more or less living in Southampton - as is my 75 and my ZT and my MGF (number 29 off production line and pristine). Actually just before I went overseas (I'm just back) I jumped in OVP and steering went heavy - snapped power steering belt (now ordered).

The 75 is with space saver as last I drove down to Soton I spotted a rather dangerous looking "crack" in the tyre and took wheel off as a precaution still need the cash to buy to fronts.

As for their state of unwash ... with 4 cars on the road, all needing bits done to them, my working 100 hour weeks and away more often than not I just don't have the time ... you should see my ZT which is my work horse, almost 250,000 miles and a joy to drive with all its 190+

I do have plans to get ovp sprayed up I've been slowly doing all the little niggly bits (still have a faulty fuel gauge I can't get to the bottom of!)

My F, on the other hand, is under the car port washed and covered. 1 out of 5 isn't too bad!

Indeed, that video is one in a series of four and OVP pops up a few times in them, I have gathered together all the appearances as well as her featuring roles as a police car in Silent Witness, Murphy’s Law, New Tricks and Ultimate Force.

The car is very much being spruced up as we speak at long last, and in the next couple of months I’m aiming to give folk a rather nice update on her restoration
