View Full Version : Loose pipe and noisy alternator - advice please

Hello,

The alternator on my ZTT seems to be making a squeeling kind of noise.

It isn't a slipping belt and sounds to be coming from within the alternator itself.

I had a leaking coolant pipe some time ago and the coolant went on the alternator. Could this be connected and are there parts of the alternator that can be sprayed with WD40?

Has anybody had a similar noisy alternator?

Whilst looking into the above I noticed a loose vibrating pipe.

In the diagram above (double click to enlarge) pipe A seems loose and is vibrating. The white pipe 'C' is wearing due to the vibrations and point 'B' has a lot of play.

Is my car missing some kind of retaining clips that should prevent this or is this normal?

Many thanks

Andy

Unfortunately the coolant may have diluted the grease in the alternator bearings.

Only remedy cheaply new alternator. Pick them up on ebay £60.00 BNIB

If it's making rumbiling noises and sounds odd it is probably your altenator on it's way out.

Any form of contamination on them seems to do them in. Oil being the primary killer or if you're around the 60k mark, then it could be old age.

the pipes do have movement in them so does the air box. it doesnt look like there are any missing clips
