View Full Version : Engine Bay Clean...

Decided today to give the engine bay a clean, it was desperate for it.

I was inspired by a DVD called 'How clean is your car'.

Weapons of choice were: Pressure washer, Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner (EMC), Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care (VRC), 2" paintbrush, clingfilm & duct tape. I left the car unlocked & the keys in my pocket, incase of a short & the car locking.

So, armed with a roll of duct tape & clingfilm I covered the alternator & other delicate electrical connectors.

I then sprayed the whole engine bay & rain run-off's with EMC & let it stand while I sprayed the underside of the bonnet, both metal & sound proofing. I then worked the EMC round the engine bay with the brush, spraying more as & when needed. Same for the bonnet, but I didn't work it in the sound proofing.

I then hit it with the pressure washer, starting with the bonnet, paying special attention to the sound proofing, I then blasted the engine bay clean of the EMC.

I then sprayed all the black (not sound proofing) with VRC, closed the bonnet & went for a drive to dry everything off.

Checking the results on my return, and I'm well pleased. Clean, oil/grease/debris free, and shiney!

Excellent results for very little labour, which is a winner in my books!

I've always been scared to death of letting the old Karcher loose in the engine bay but those pictures certainly encourage me to have a go :D

Damned nice job :D

Take precautions & you'll be ok + don't jet at full power at/around sensitive areas.

Phoned him briefly the other day, he says he's just too busy & stuff, and I occasionally see him online briefly when he logs into messenger.

Thanks! Like I said at the beginning, excellent results for very little labour, which is music to my ears!

I was kinda worried about it, but all's well, and I'm confident about doing it again now.

You could demo it after my ZT has had it's usual spit & Polish in Conisborough.:D:D:D

i do like to keep mine clean, but it does need touching up before Carsington as i went to Keiths last week for a T4 session and one of the roads was closed causing my satnav to have a field day sending me up flooded " Z " roads !

I reversed back up some of them but eventually had to go for it and even with an undertray some NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- got into the engine.

Rob, I don't usually drive about with my show plate on, the Midlands meet episode was a one off. :D:D:D:D:D:D

You are not alone, I drove from the meet at Thrybergh country park to home in Leeds with my new showplate still fitted.
