What are these pipes

In the engine bay of my V6 Tourer , on left hand side , there is a pipe that runs up from beside the Power Steering fluid reservoir at the front , goes to the left and runs beside the Screen wash filler cap. At this point there seems to be a small valve and a smaller tube/pipe then runs from here beside the main pipe towards the rear of the engine bay. I have just noticed that the small valve should have a screwed on cap - but this is missing. HEnce my concern :-

what are the pipes for
what are the risks associated with loss of the valve cap?

Sounds like your air con pipe the missing cover is just a, cap covering the valve

Without the protective cap, dirt will collect around the valve plunger. Air conditioning lines need to be kept clean. My advice is to buy and fit a cap ASAP.
