Hey,

Not sure if I have made an error.

I have the FBH with the timer and remote. I tried the remote and the FBH goes through its cycle and fails to fire up, so I checked the pump and no clicking, checked the fuel line and dry! So I thought I would swap the pump over from my spare car that I know works and still no joy, so I swapped the pcb as well. Still nothing.

Then I thought that as the outside temp was 9 degrees would this stop the pump from working? I don’t know if the remote has an override function or if it simply follows the usual rules when you start the car in that if the temp outside isn’t lower than 5 degrees it won’t fire up although it will go through it’s pre cycle as it’s been activated by the remote.

Should I remove the 6 pin plug and short pin 3 to over ride it and see if the pump works then or is there something else I might have missed? Dodgy earth in the pump plug etc.

Any help appreciated.

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Firstly ,try your burner as itself like this.(maintain the contact )

http://rovermg1.free.fr/rovermg/thumbnails/HeY7llvZ9if4ZhFTPBc1.jpg (http://rovermg1.free.fr/rovermg/images/HeY7llvZ9if4ZhFTPBc1.jpg)

If you get some heat ,it will be remote related.

If the fan stops after 2 minutes ,your PCB has issues ...but, i can help :}

Hi Mike,

Thanks, will try that in the morning, you repaired my first PCB a few years ago :-)

I think it might have something to do with the remote but will update the thread tomorrow.

Many thanks

I thought temp had to be 7 degrees or less

From memory <5C, but only for the FBH to run auto. Manual operation will run at any temperature, but cut off on coolant temperature.

The FBH switches the pump on/controls the pump, so if the FBH shows signs of life, the pump should be active. If the FBH fails to fire three times in a row, it will go to 'lock- out' and need to be reset by pulling the fuse.

No clicking from the pump suggests the pump has failed, the wiring/connections, or the FBH is not trying to power it.

Try a meter across the pump terminals, whilst the FBH is making the proper noises.

Hi,

FBH runs on pin 3 to earth override for 2 min 7 seconds, pump is from a working unit which I ran yesterday and should be fine only other thing then is to send the pcb to French mike for examination unless there is a problem with the wiring from the pcb to the pump?

Many Thanks

Thought I'd try this as photo made it look easy.
However I can't see how to connect to pin 3. Seems to be very firmly within a connector . I'll try to attach a photo of mine.

Do you have timer and telestart?

That timing is typical of the usual problem of failed components on the PCB, which FrenchMike specialises in fixing.

Thanks, I used a surgical scalpel to connect to the wire in pin 3, means I didn’t have to disconnect or properly cut anything.

Telestart is the timer system to turn the FBH on at a time you set with it, so the car is toasty in time for you to drive to work.

You can get a connection to pin 3 by poking a thin rigid wire into the hole for pin 3, with the plug still in place. The rigid wire as used for internal phone wiring works fine for this.

I have the timer unit in the arm rest that starts the FBH which I think must be telestart, plus the remote.

I have been in touch with French mike and will be sending the pcb to him this week for repair, just in time for the cold snap :-)

I don't have a timer but there are two small holes in central arm rest so perhaps it once had one.
No idea what a telestart is, not heard of that before.

Gosh , now that's proper car surgery! I can't see any space to get a wire or anything else in but il have another go tomorrow.

Hi, You know the trick to dismantle the connector ?

Starting the FBH by remote . It comes in two parts T80 /T90 and a remote fob . As you can see in the picture the remote fob with 2 buttons , the telestart T90 and the timer ? Can be easily retro fitted if you have the loom .
