I think that is where we have been going wrong 2nd mentions easing off nut on handbrake,before adjusting pads.

I find if you slacken the bolt then adjust the shoes up then pull up the hand brake a couple of times to centralize the shoes then repeat this several times until no further improvement is achieved then adjust the handbrake nut

This needs a sorted compensator though so get the welder out first
