Also might be worth checking the adjustment on the handbrake shoes

It could well be the compensator needing replacing But i would first try to adjust it at the wheels There is a How To which should be strictley followed.

I have the modified compensator fitted But still need to keep on top of the adjustment at the wheels

Got the same problem, leave mine in gear when parked up. Will get mechanic to sort it before next MOT. Thanks for the advice.

Arctic fitted the modified compensator to mine and 3 clicks it's fully on.

Only use the handbrake for parking on hills, if it's flat just leave it in "P".

Still in perfect adjustment 18 months after Arctic fitted it.

As the handbrake is only normally used for parking the shoes don't wear.

Also the inside of the brake drums tends to rust up as there is no friction from movement to keep them clean.

Now and then, perhaps once a month, the handbrake needs to be gently applied with the car moving along the road. This will greatly improve the friction between the drum and shoes.

A good thing to do during the week before your next MOT.

Also there is no need to pull up the brake lever hard which is needed when the drums are rusty in order to stop the car moving.

Personally I always use brakes and gears when parking. ( Sort of belt and braces. Lol. )
