I've sourced some reasonably solid rear backplates that I'm going to de-surface-rust, paint and fit. But, if i view the rear handbrake cable spigot ( from the back of the plate), there looks to be a cable ferrule down each at a depth of around 17mm. But I can't be sure. Can anyone tell me if this is the stop for the handbrake cable and should be there, or are they rusted in ferrules that I need to drill out.
TIA

I don't fully understand but if it is from the handbrake cable you can apply heat to the outer part and the bit from the handbrake cable may come out

Yes the ferrule as you mention is part of the back plate. The handbrake cable slides into this.

I’ve just refurbished my back plates last week. I cleaned the rust away using the Dremmel, it does a lovely job. Best to use some lube like copper grease when refitting the hand brake cable.
