So...What do those one time use fixings, knock off jubilee clips actually DO?

We may have replaced the thermosat without them and now I have an untraceable coolant loss....

They stop the sleeve sliding up and down, it keeps the ends in the correct position in the water pump casting and the thermostat body.

Ok I guess that makes sense, fortunately there is at least one still in position, I don't think the leak is coming from there. I suspect bottom hose but will know more tomorrow when I jack it up.

Thank you for your reply!

Without them to act as a brace, "rocking" of the thermostat housing is likely leading to a cracked unit :eek::eek:

Hi Patrick
As stated above they are also re-usable you can open them side ways and reuse ;)

As Chris75 says Patrick, you need both.
I don't think the leak is coming from there ...
Is there any coolant in the 'V'?

They are belt and braces, but of no practical use if the pipe is installed correctly.
They are, in principle re-useable, but in practice they get brittle.

You can use hose clamps or cable ties if you wish.

I doubt your leak will come from from there.
