Had a bulb blow accompanied by the message "dipped beam failure". Not surprised with the state of the snow rutted roads so off to buy a new one plus a spare at our local budget autospares Biltema.

With wheel hard over and halogen light I saw the spring, (using Colvert’s excellent picture as reference) out with the old bulb and in with a new one. Fixed I thought, but when I switched on the lights it was still dead on that side. Not surprised, budget prices, out with the new one and in with the spare but still dead. Some west country term that would not pass the swear filter followed. Out with the spare bulb and bench tested with a spare battery - does work, sorry Biltema, and so did the first bulb. In with the bench tested bulb but still no light, switched on the ignition too but only to see the same "dipped beam failure".
OK it must be a fuse, switched off the ignition but tried one last time on the light switch - it then worked.

Winter gemlins?

Intermittent supply failure? Maybe due to dicky harness from chafing on body weld/seam.

Of course this is but one, though common, possibility.

Thanks T cut, could be something to look at if the light cuts out again. At the moment I'm just putting it down to gremlins, time will tell.
