I have recently had to change a wheel on my cdt, getting the car up was not a problem as I have a 12v jack as I have a large stomach hernia which makes it difficult to use the scissor jack. Putting the new wheel on was a big problem, getting the holes lined up with the wheel. I want a bolt the same thread as the wheel bolts so I can insert the bolt and locate the wheel that way and then put the other bolts in easily then take the new bolt out. Does anyone know what size the bolts are please?. Thanks, John.

The thread is M14 x 1.5mm pitch and there's 25mm of thread depth on the bolts.
What you need is a wheel changing stud. You can get these from eBay. They're a 6 inch or so long bar with one end threaded M14 x 1.5. You just screw that into a bolt hole so the wheel will sit on it while you place the bolts. Can't remember the official term for it. Very handy when you're not the yoot ya'were.

I went on e.bay to look for the bolt and found "wheel bolt alignment tool", to see if it fits my wheel I typed in MGzt and it says "will not fit". It says M14 1.5. Any ideas?. Thanks, John.

An M14 x 1.5 thread is the same thread on a ZT as it is anywhere else.

What a great idea if you have to change a wheel in the dark - by the side of the road.

Just ordered one ... :}

Or, like me, too decrepit to lift the wheel for more than ten seconds.

Just use a piece of 12mm round bar about 60 my long. Slip it into the hole, slide wheel on and screw a couple of studs in and pull the bar out, simple.

I made one several years ago, I cut the thread part from spare bolt, then welded some rod on it, then ground the weld back to make it smooth.

It is best installed in a hole at the top of the hub, so the wheel hangs down from it, but unless the brake is on, the hub will rotate so it is at the bottom. If on your own, a length of wood wedged between brake pedal and seat base will solve that.

Much easier to locate a wheel, than struggling to lift, turn and locate the first bolt.
