My car had to be recovered by the AA last week following a suspected crankshaft pulley failure. That is one sound i dont want to hear again, (sounded like a bag of spanners being pulled by a truck full of spanners!!)
Anyway, i have had garage cover on my policy for years (due to my high annual mileage) but have never had to use it. Our local garage that were chosen to fix the car rang yesterday to say repairs had been authorised and that AA would be ordering the part via Eurocarparts, and not the cheap pulley, the better (possibly corteco??) one at £140. The garage just rang to say part received this morning, now fixed and car ready for collection. So, for the cost of probably half the years payments, my car is fixed and paid for by AA with my only cost being £30 excess!! Well worth the cover with unlimited claims in a year, upto £500 per claim. well chuffed :)

I rather went off the AA when they turned out to the Omega I had at the time. Had to give the AA guy one of my spare fuses for his van!

Hi Gary.
If the AA ordered the Corteco one then it would be more than £140 fro ECP link below.
https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Rover_75_2.0_2005/p/car-parts/belts-chains-and-tensioners/engine-parts/tensioners-idlers-and-dampers/?347670045&1&3c8854c3ee5d1d5cd13f2082b266f87234601112&000091

I would ask the garage what crank pulley it actually was, as I can only one other on ECP

Did they change the belts at the same time

Didnt get chance to find out which pulley and the garage didnt chnage any belts as AA wouldnt pay for them (not damaged)!! I'll get them done soon.
At least 'slouchy' is back home now and nice and quiet again.

BTW what actually fails on these as they look quite solid!!

BTW what actually fails on these as they look quite solid!!on the inner side, the bit you can’t see when fitted, it’s rubber, and that dries out and disintegrates over the years, so once it starts, it’s not acting as a damper any more, thus the noise.
