Hi all thank in advance...
I’ve a 2004 MGZT CDTI with I believe the BMW M47 engine...ok it’s done 130k so not a lot really.
So it’s been great engine wise until recently and it would not want to fire up occasionally so I guessed crank sensor....
But then the day after I bought this the clutch went, I was topping it up for 3 years so I can’t complain....
So got a friend to fit a clutch and do the crank sensor at the same time...turned out it was the wrong sensor but he had a good second hand one so fitted that...
He then calls to say clutch is done and it starts fine now...BUT it now will only Rev to 1k and it stops!
Weird how it never done that before and only since the clutch and sensor have been done?
Maybe coincidence that something has gone wrong, little bit of research online and I didn’t think I could hear the in tank pump so guessed it would be that! Bought one and fitted that and it’s still the same...so wasn’t that either...I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to look at next? Any help appreciated!

Maybe buy an oem crank sensor?

It seems the engine has gone into---Get you home mode.---

A sensor is telling the ECU there is a problem.

Could easily be a fuel pressure sensor or a poor electrical connection to one.

SUSPECT. That second hand sensor from your friend.

Trace the LP fuel delivery pipes in the engine bay - could be he has trapped a pipe when doing the clutch and this is causing the fault.

Thanks all so far, been away with work so will look into trapped fuel pipe idea etc when I next get a chance. Will also see if he has the old sensor too and maybe try that...any other suggestions would be great thanks.
