Sorry I can't help with that as Pete is the man for that. I copied over to the forum something that Pete had already written.

I will from now on be doing a newsletter for the first week of each month. Any suggestions on content or submissions from members are greatfully received though.

As Ken says the Thread was posted over five years ago,at a time when there was probably about a hundred members.Times have moved on a little as we now have 17,000 registered members.

The administration work involved would be a massive task,and if a newsletter was to be produced, it would contain the same information that is readily available on the forum.

As Ken says the Thread was posted over five years ago,at a time when there was probably about a hundred members.

In fact on the day it was written there were no members as the club forum wasn't even live then :}

It went live on Nov 6th that year for the first time. The newsletter was sent out a few times by email but to be honest by the time it got to members the news was old because it only repeated what was on the forum as Pab said.

Newsletters worked well in car clubs when the only way of letting members know what was going on was monthly magazines from the club. Newsletters then bridged the gap between publications so they are no longer needed.

I actually did a newsletter just over a year ago, still have the infrastructre set up for it and the software. I sent it out to about 100 members.

The issue is time, and material - one newsletter using the proper software is a few days work, then there's the legal side of things, permissions etc.

The main issue being that half the time you're just reusing stuff that's already on the forums.

I do think however it would be nice to have a statement from Christopher, perhaps every quarter of where the club is going, and what it has been doing etc.

Surely a newsletter or monthly magazine could be posted somewhere on the forum...?

The problem that the club had five years ago would still exist though as it's all on the forums anyway :}

:iagree::wot: Before internet based Clubs came about, the club newsletter was the only way to promulgate information to it's members. At a cost of production materials and postage. Any information as to what the Club is doing etc is available now within the forums of this Club..
Recent Club events etc can be found here (http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/).... The rest are on the forums ;):D More up-to-date than a newsletter can ever accommodate ;)

some kind of newsletter would be nice. to keep prices low, send out a pdf containing a couple of pages. The newsletter could contain the best of the postings of the forum (like a summary) and some info about members and their car. Put it all in a nice format and after a few editions you've got the best the forum has to offer

There is no point in having a news letter these days because all you would get is old news that has all ready been read on these forums

Would be nice but 17,000 second class stamps and envolopes:bowdown:
I pity the person writing the addresses and licking the envolopes:drool4:
Don't think the logistics of it stack up even if it were to be sent out to subscribed members only.
Of course I'm guessing they would be emailed in the real world though!!

Interestingly, I have today received an emailed newsletter from "org" (I've not logged on there for months, possible years!)

One thing that could be useful in a newsletter is articles not necessarily related directly to cars and maintenance. For instance we probably have a large number of members with specialist knowledge who could write informative articles and pieces. If we have for example a retired police officer they could write a piece about the changes in policing over the years. I myself would be prepared to write a piece about Health and Safety in the workshop, something I have a little knowledge of.

Steve we already have a section for that, and it would be great to expand it ;)

It's called the Members Contribution forum.

Once again Ken has the honours of explaining what it's for (with another of his early posts) :D

I think the suggestion was to email a PDF file. But someone's still got to collate, edit and produce the content, and that takes time, which to most of us, is a very precious commodity.

I agree with most that with the website and forums, a newsletter would be redundant. Important announcements (like the National Meets) are placed in positions where they can be easily noticed and the how-tos are continually expanding, so the content is guaranteed to be up-to-date.
