View Full Version : Rear Hub bearing question

I am in the middle of replacing rear brake parts on my tourer and after removing the hub, noticed that the bearing had come apart. Anyway, ordered and received a new one from the Bay for £30 (didnt have funds for the more expensive versions at the time) but anyway, it looks different to the ones from Rimmer and DMGRS and seems very tight to get on. So the question is, before I do something irreversible, should the hub need to be pushed/bashed to get it on or should it fit all the way with little effort?

I am able to return the item from the Bay and wait a bit longer to get one from DMGRS, as it not been fitted, just offered up for test.
thanks for reading :)

Just removed 2 rear hubs when trying to fix ABS issues - anyway, they should just slide on/off, I add a smear of grease when refitting but it's important to get them central, slightest difficulty take them out and retry. I've had a hub bearing come apart but it went back together again on the bench and reused.

Good luck

Hi Smudge
They should just slide off and one, I have done this job and it was start forward. I have learnt from bitter experience to get my things from DMGRS and Rimmers, then you are sure you will not have any issues.
Bob
PS
Please let us all know how you get on.

Thanks guys, I think I knew the answer after the cheapy one wouldnt go on easily enough. It's been returned and a 'proper' one ordered from Mat at Dmgrs. Its the last part of the rear refurbishment, then I can concentrate on getting the sills done but the weather here in far NE hasnt been kind so far this summer!! :)

Unfortunately the 'OEM' version from DMGRS looks just the same as the cheap version that I have just returned (in fact its being sold for £37 online vs £50+ from DMGRS!!). Definately different from the pictures on the website but I dont now which is better?? (image attached from DMGRS, the other with the box is the one I received.) Tried messaging Mat and the team but no answer yet

Don't bother trying to find the original fitment SNR bearings. Even SNR are doing the same as most other 'suppliers' and putting cheap landfill in their own fancy packing. Little choice but to buy the cheap rubbish, just don't be conned into paying for a box with a name on it.

Bought a pair of Ebay specials for £27 pounds each, been on for about 10,000 miles, they did just push on,don't panic to much about brand names they will work are they won't, got to be better than knackered bearings :}

Smudge i have fitted the ones you originally had to cars, for local owners, and they all worked well and lasted.

If you check this link out you will see it shows the original bearing then in the next two photos what you will most likely get arrive.

I've always been lead to believe that the "cast" type are the better ones to get as opposed to the "turned" type! Don't ask me why because I can't answer why.
Having said that, a friend of mine has just fitted two from DMGRS and has had no problems at all so far.

I bought a cheap £26 rear hub from eBay for my Connie and it lasted 4 months and the abs light was back on even though I had cleaned and treated any corrosion on the back plate. I couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of trying to return it and as I had thrown the old one away , I just ordered one from DMGRS due to their better warranty and swapped it with ease. Nearly 30,000 miles later and everything is still spot on.

Earlier this year I had to remove a rear hub from my tourer to clean the back plate and even though it has covered 206,000 mile from the factory, it just slid off and refitted okay.
