Hey guys,

Bit of a problem - above the passenger side rear wheel the car is squating down quite heavily. Thinking back to last night, I overtook a motorbike (:D ), but going round a bend, i had a bang (could've been a crack)
Any ideas what has happened? should i drive on it?

Cheers
Steve

it could be a snapped spring..... i would have a look and see, as it could have major handeling implications (yeah i carnt spell........ i dont get paid enough to spell correctly)

What happens if you push down above the wheel?

Hi Guys
Thanks for your replies.
I've left the car at work. However, I have already driven over 50 miles on it since the noise I heard. What kind of damage might that have done? Is replacement springs an expensive/difficult job? any ideas how much?

wonder why it's broken at only 10.000 miles?!

Steve
P.S I'm not able to try that Chris - will do on Monday though

Jack it up and take the wheel off it should then be fairly obvious what has happened the springs are fairly short maybe you have lost the whole thing and the car is on the bump stops on that side

Two rear springs on my 75 went, looked hunched, ends had broken off...

50miles will be okay Steve as long as you did not go over anything major from a pot hole type of thing, springs and dampering hydraulics is what you have here. Without the spring you just have the dampener. Like Keith says jacking up on the rear hard point will reveal the problem. Springs should be straight forward. The reference is printed in white writing along the body of the spring.

Following this picture I had to give it a good clean and polish :)

Impressive

Surprised he hasn't cleaned inside his exhaust... :carrot & stick:

Always impressed by someone who removes the rear silencer just to get a good photo of the suspension for a fellow 260 owner in need!!!

Guys,
I haven't had this fixed yet, and have it booked into the garage Wednesday.
But so as I don't go in completely 'cold' I'm trying to price up how much it would cost to repalce the spring.

Your input would be hugely appreciated?

Labour time?
Materials requried other than spring?
Price for materials?
Or telephone number for place I can get price/availbaility from?

Would it be parts from a standard 75? Or are the V8 specials?

Many thanks

Steve

Steve the springs seem to have the same part number for 75 and ZT which seems odd, both around £90 each plus vat

There seems to have been some supercession of part numbers
Gut feeling, you should change both sides as a matched pair.

Hi Keith

I've been told they are about £100 each and Rover recommended doing both - however, the car has only done 10k miles? what's the point of changing both?!
