A lot of talk has been about these 'ere fans. Please excuse the question but what has been happening with them? Swapping from 3 to 2 speed or vice vera? What advantage would there be going down this route if the worst happens?

The original 3 speed fans have 4 carbon brushes, on the commutator when the aircon is on in auto the fan starts in low speed and on the diesels the 2nd and 3rd speeds get very little use, so the low speed carbon brush wears down quicker than the others until it no longer works and you have no aircon.

These motors are no longer available as they were updated to a 2 speed motor with an external resistor wired in to give the low speed. The factory fitted resistor is the weak link in these motors but Jules has sourced uprated ones.

There is a modification that can be done to the old 3 speed to make the 2nd speed come on with the aicon but it won't last very long as the other 3 carbon brushes will be getting towards the end of their life anyway.

So anybody with the old 3 speed fan when it fails it is easier to get a new 2 speed motor with Jules uprated resistor and fit that.

I think this is what you are looking for. Uses middle speed of a three speed fan as the slow speed
