Steve is this your old car that John in Shrewsbury had up for sale a couple of weeks ago?

Hello Keith

Well spotted - yes that is my old car. John didn't mention he sold it to a trader. Nice looking car isn't it?

Just to note - some of his advert blurb is well off track - most expensive V8 ZT? every option possible? there are a few small issues with the car - he hasn 't mentioned any of them yet wants 100% payment in 24 hours? and a feedback score of over 50?

Yes exactly very weird add if there was an external email link or anything else a bit iffy I would have thought it a scam

It has been getting good bids since very early on I don't understand people that do that, auctions are all about the last minute frenzy in my books, much more fun.

I've just spoken to the seller and I have to say I'm confused and really gutted for John. There is the paintwork issue and the buyer has exploited this and is now selling the car having profited from John's misfortune.

That's bad news. :(

Can you say what the issues with the car are?

Regards

What paint issue or did he have a mishap?
Or did you have a mishap in it ;)

The Black one I have was being bid on by a trader I sniped it at £100 more than the trader was willing to go to

Don't think I could have done any better and it is in a lot better condition now than when I bought it

I would hazard a guess, the trader said it wasn't worth a lot because the paint is impossible to replicate.
He is now making it a main selling point.

I've since spoken to the seller and he's not a trader. However, I believe John had his pants pulled down on the price because the paintwork is blooming (i.e. slightly blotchy - a paint defect from manufacture and can only be cured by full re-spray) and now the seller has not mentioned it in his advert, and when questioned by me, denied that the car has this problem. However, later in the conversation he conceded that is why he is selling it. I think it's unfair to advertise the car on e-bay without mentioning this. However, the bidding is currently £2k more than he paid for it and he says he won't let it go for less than £10,250

Oh well it is a big world out there John is a big boy and made his choice and he did have a nice carrot as an incentive to sell it.

Lets hope the people bidding have viewed it and therefore know what it looks like close up as it looks ok in the pictures

If they haven't they may well pull out when they see it and then the seller will be left with monster fvfs...;)

Zeb

Here we go again!

'Error in reserve price'?? Rough translation...'I was greedy'?

This is one of 820 V8's ever made ?????????

Als260
6th April 2007, 19:26
Yes there were only 800 and something 260s made. However this is not the most expensive one ever made, as stated, cos it doesn't have the factory DVD player or Monogram interior.

Ah ! Must of been late last night when I read it as a rover 800 V8 just about sums up my week.

'The seller has ended this listing early because the item has been lost or broken'

Has this seller ever actually got to the end of a listing with this car?

Keith

Probably just a way to avoid Ebay fees

SteveTD
12th April 2007, 09:51
He wants £11k for the car - and told me the reason he pulled it last time, was because at around £9.5k, the car was worth more than that. However, it has a reserve so it's not like he had to sell it for sub reserve price? He's done exactly the same again - therefore Keith, you must be right?

Zeb
12th April 2007, 15:51
He still has to pay to list it just the same.....and his fee avoidance would certainly put me off buying from this guy.

He's just e-mailed me. apparently he hit a reindeer and has 'trashed the car'. Looks like the insurance will be paying out his 'ideal price' then.......

So the next listing will be 'Spares or Repair'? Nah!

Keith

Sounds like a plot suitable for only fools and horses
I have not personally seen many Reindeer in Lowestoft must be due to Global Yawning altering their migration and feeding habits!

Of course it could actually be true and then, well poor bloke bet it will be fun filling in the insurance claim form!
