Just heard from my local (and really, really good rover dealer) that they are going to close down in 1 months time. I'm just about to zoom over there to pick up a pump so I'll find out more, but here's a thought . . . Anyone interested in seeing if we can buy out their 75/zt stock of parts?

John

I would love to buy their stock but my wife wants to eat over the next twelve months  You could do us a very big favour though, could you ask them for any advertising boards they may have for the 75 ZT and an even bigger favour and ask for any MGR flags they may have flying around the showroom. We need these things for meets and other things we have planned and would be a huge bonus for the owners club

Regards

Ken

John,

Could you find out what is happening to their Testbook unit? Parts could be expensive and not at this stage a club thing but no harm in asking about things - inc old brochures, manuals flags etc.

Good luck :)

Hi Mike / Ken
Had to dash after posting the message as part of the call was "we're no longer open for parts on Saturdays", so only just got these questions

Matey there said the whole site (including petrol station) is going to be flattened. They close at the end of the month, but they had heard nothing official about the stock / display items. The rumour is it's going to a "secure location", but nothing concrete. I might leave it a week until they find out more, then ask again. . .

The dealer is also Kia (Evans Halshaw) and I have a feeling they have a branch in High Wycombe. Is that your part of Bucks?

Not high Wycombe sadly otherwise I'd have camped on their door in the am.

Testbook is the biggy for members as currently we are all entirely reliant on garages keeping/having it. Keith has been trying to sort that one out for sometime.

Thanks for checking it out John.

Mike :D

Just thinking about maps, perhaps we could get members to add their local MG dealers to the frappr site?

John, if it's okay by you can I get in touch with them as well? I'm not far from them in Tadley during the week so I can see if there's anything they want to donate or sell at a reasonable price. Just thought I would make a comment first before I start calling - otherwise there'd be two of us pestering them lol - but I'm not trying to take over your efforts so do keep in touch with them.

I always found it awkward getting off their forecourt funnily enough......

Cheers,

Pete

Just one thing to bear in mind, they've all been given 1 months notice. "and a merry xMas from Evans Halshaw" was one comment, so I guess their moral is a bit low.

Feel free to contact them, and I'm also happy to collect stuff or help with loading /if you need assistance. The main guy I chat to is John in the parts dept. Big chap and really, really helpful. Even gives me print outs of service bulletins!

Now some time back mine went in there for a new bush on the rear suspension arm. They were really surprised to see it had worn out and it took a couple of days to get the right part ordered, it was so unusual. John may have been the chap who I overheard in the back swearing about the bits that failed on a 75 were the BMW ones as he hunted the item down on his chart!

I'll call them Monday though. There are some specific things I am chasing for the club archives and they may be able to help.

I have dropped an sympathetic email out to these guys expressing sorrow to lose another MGR Dealer, and also politely requested if any tooling or equipment would be available to buy.
I do know the position the lads are in, but if we were to sit on our hands and do nothing, the equipment would possibly go in the bin ? If you dont ask ..............

Agreed. Could you let us all know the outcome?

Not been past my friendly local dealer for a while due to work, but aim to make the pilgrimage 1 more time before they closed. Has anyone contacted them about the flags, old stock, test book etc?

The dealership has definitely cleared out the show room so I think we can presume it is no more. Could someone update the dealer list on:

Dealers in a similar situation could be a good source of 'charitable' donations to the club so worth people posting any details of similar sites closing.

Also re T4 Omitec has lost the Ford support contract apparently and I believe Landrover dealers are buying autologic? at £6000 a pop that could mean some T4s will become available soon
