A new system of 50 categories was introduced in 2007 and insurers had until Dec 2009 to implement it. The car's rating depends on a vriety of factors from price of parts, power output security levels etc.

Great stuff to know, but all looks a bit complicated and another way for my insurance to go up this year!

Don't understand how the security groups are worked out. The ZT's 160s and 190's are in group type D so apparently have sub-standard security (for the type of car) if I've read that right. But the ZS 180 is group A and meets the requirements for the group their in. Surely the ZT's must be more tamper proof, and the ZS more likely to be a target with its huge boy racer spolier?

Just having the Internal alarm sensors option (motion detectors) in your car saves you money on Insurance.

Didn't know that was an option, I thought they all had motion sensors! Told my insurance that the car was all standard.

Never fitted as Standard.
Earlier type was above seatbelt column
Newer version is mounted in centre of Roof behind the Sunroof (if fitted).

May well have been fitted to your car as option by original owner.
