Not sure if this is the right forum to post these, but here's a couple of pics of the old tractor on the Furka Pass in Switzerland, taken a couple of weeks ago.

Bit of a job getting up those gradients with the diesel - never got the revs up enough to kick the turbo in, so it was a real drag at times. :)

(actually, that was on the Nufenen Pass)

Cheers for the comments, guys.

1. Our car is 10 years old and has 140K on it. :) As long as you make sure it's solid before you go, it'll be fine. Done it in 17 year old Celicas before.

2. We have a 3-year old.

Any more excuses? :D

Seriously ... we just take a 2-room tent with us and figure out interesting places where there are campsites before we go. My girlfriend is Hungarian, so we go over once a year.

This year we went down through Luxembourg, over the Alps on the main road through Switzerland and past Milan to Pisa and Florence, then up past Venice and Ljubljana towards Budapest. On the way back we came through Salzburg and SW Germany (see pics of museum in Photo forum),then Luxembourg again before heading back to Dunkirk.

Over the years we've stopped at loads of interesting places I'd not otherwise have seen - like Vienna, Prague, Regensburg, Nurnberg, Neuscwanstein, Wurzburg, Heidelberg, Karlovy Vary, Reims, Chamonix, Verona, Padova, Venice, Milan and Turin. And the St Gotthard and St Bernard Passes through the Alps.

It really is great fun - we've done it 4 times in Celicas (3 n/a and one turbo), a CR-V, a VW Sciroco (old one) and a 75 KV6 Tourer a couple of years ago. Satnav has not yet entered the equation, though I used a phone app to find the war cemetery in Dunkirk this year. :)

This year we did 4860 miles, at an average of 39.1mpg. Diesel cost was £590. Camping costs range from 14 Euros a night in Luxembourg (where 200 fags = 32 Euros, diesel = 98p a litre) to around 40 Euros in places like Venice and Pisa.

Thoroughly recommended.

Car looks as fantastic as the scenery.

The air up there is so clean. Gave me a real buzz!

Thanks folks!

Here's a couple of the KV6 Tourer that we took a couple of years ago. One at the Romanian border (that was fun - NOT!), and one at the side of the Danube in Budapest, with Buda Palace on the other side.
