Track rod end

hi i was under my car today to check a few things as my mot is coming up soon, i noticed the little rubber cup on my track rod end was split, the part at the wheel end (not the steering rack side) is this a mot failer also the drop link rubber is split as well. any guidence would be appreciated.

The rubber dust covers on track rod ends, ball joints and drop links are adviseable items so should be ok for the mot

But only assuming there is no wear on the balljoint. If the balljoint is free of wear and clean inside, then it is worth buying replacement rubber seals and fitting them, it is not a difficult job and they cost a few pence. Once the winter weather and salt gets in, you will need to fit complete replacement balljoints.

Can balljoints be fitted into the track rod ends or does the whole arm require replacing? If the ball joint is sound (free of water/road grit) you could just fit a new boot. You can get ball joint boots of all shapes and sizes.
