My car has done 90,000 miles. What engine oil is recommended? Thank you.

SAE 10W-40 or 15W-40 to specification ACEA A2 or A3 is recommended..

use either a proper semi synthetic 10/40 .............or a fully syn 5/40 (most members opt for 5/40) but it really depends on service history.

i would never use a 15/40 unless that was the only one available.

Higher mileage engines should not be filled with 5/40.
Use 10/40 semi-synth.

i would refrain from using a fully synthetic oil in a 90k car unless it has been used in it from new.

fully synthetic oils have cleaning agents that prevent carbon build up,this build up that occurs, and with the mileage of your car does no harm to the engine.

The Owner's Handbook states:

5W/30, 5W/40, 0W/40
Minimum oil specification ACEA A3 & B3
Oils for 2.0 litre diesel engines must meet both ACEA A3 and ACEA B3 specifications.

I use Unipart 5W/40 fully synthetic that is about £18 for 5 litres from my local Partco. Unfortunately it takes 6.8 litres for an oil change so you can either buy 2 X 5 litres now, save what's left and just buy 1 X 5 litres next time or buy 5 litres and a couple of 1 litres now.

As i said it depends on service history...............and most oils have anti carbon build up additives. So check where the car was serviced , A main dealer will probable not use fully synthetic if another oil is recommended for the vehicle anyway. And most servise centres will have a bult tank of semi syn 10/40 (or at least they would have over the past 5 years)
