Now the nights are drawing in I'm thinking about seeing if I can upgrade the standard 21w reversing lights to a higher output LED light as I have to reverse in to a gloomy driveway and any help will do.
Has anyone done this, if so was it worth it?, any CANBUS issues?

To get the same useful light output from a LED system, it's gonna need rather a large number of SMDs. Just because an LED unit fits a bulb socket doesn't mean you'll get the same light emission. Something like these may be bright enough.

These are (supposedly) for headlamps, but I'm sure they'd be quite inadequate.

Blimey - I was thinking of lighting the reversing area not irradiating the garden:D

Does depend on what your using it for, I wouldn't attempt a headlamp led bulb myself. The quality and type of the led is a big factor on the output of light, not just the quantity. Some led's emit over 3 times the amount than others.

lateral thinking, how about a suitably placed pir floodlight on the side of the house

Would love to but we are renting, and it's taken the landlord (mien fuhrer) six months to give us a working cooker so you can imagine how a conversation about a floodlight might go!!
