Sorry to barge in here, this is my hubby's membership but seeing as I was the one to find out how to log him back in I thought I'd just have a winge, hope thats ok.

The garage (which don't like working on his car) have managed to totally ruin the engine on his car. I am just sick to the pit of my stomach with worry. It went in for the glow plugs changing. They couldn't get 4th one out so hubby said ok just change 3. When they hoisted car back up the 4th one fell out and into the engine? The garage owner (who by the way is the husband of a friend) telephoned at 8.30pm this evening to say that his mechanics had broken various bolts, smashed the head? and done various other damage and basically we need a new engine. There isn't a new one in the whole world, so I have been left with the task of trying to find a new one?? And as always with parts it has to be exactly the right one. So I have to try and liase between my hubby, the garage owner and my on-line search. Major headache for a mere female. I have filled in the details with several parts companies just hoping for a reply with a decent quote.

You should have posted in the Technical Section for more exposure. (Edit : Moved as suggested and is as appropriate ;))

From your description if the engine is smashed up I would look at the second hand options from a breakers yard. new parts if you include labour etc may mean its is not viable economically.

Rimmer Bros the MG Rover parts specialist have these parts on special offer if this is what you need, however by the sound of it you may need a Cylinder head assembly too.
How about thishttp://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-LCF105160

If you are up in Aberdeenshire how about these guys for breakers for the whole engine assemblyhttp://www.overtongarage.co.uk/

Posts move to correct forum, and I hope, with the right thread heading.

Sounds like the garage has fouled up and therefore it is their responsibility to put right.

It's a BMW engine and so I believe still in production. Should be no problem in sourcing a new or second hand one. I had no problem in sourcing mine, used, and at a very reasonable price with 80K miles ;)

Hope you get it sorted soon :}

EDIT : Have a look at this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-ZT-ROVER-75-BMW-ENGINE-CODE-M47R-2-0-DIESEL-ENGINE-/380248837125?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item588898cc05) as an example- although I paid less than half of this for mine.
