Hi

When I start the car from cold there seems to be a loud grating type of sound ming from the bottom of the engine. It seems to go once the engine has warmed up. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Dave,

Is it a noise from moving parts hitting each other or more a metallic shake noise:confused:

I ask because if the latter I'd be looking at a loose undertray or the exhaust flexi pipe that couples the exhaust manifold down pipe to the exhaust system.

Its neither really. More a grating noise of metallic parts.

Oh dear :(
Or maybe not :)

Best go and get it listened to by someone in the know, how far are you from Coventry and Lates?

Its going into the local Xpart centre on Monday. I just hoped someone was going to come along and say 'Oh, I've had that and its nothing to worry about' etc...

I'm sure it will be nothing to worry about :) most probably it'll be something silly :panic:

Right, I've just had that nice man from the AA out and he has diagnosed that the bearing on the idler pulley on the auxilliary drive belt has gone. Don't think its too expensive but pretty urgent.

That's just what I was going to sugest Dave........ ;)

If it is a noise that appears constant then it will tend to be bearing-like so that end of the block is where I would go first.

Thats the trouble Pete, its not constant. Keeps coming and going. Made it hard to find.

Well, as least it's been diagnosed which is a positive step. Do you think you may be able to grab any pics of it being sorted out??

Doubt it, you only get as far as the garage reception.

Dave
just out of interest, how many miles has the engine done? Just something else for me to look out/listen for on mine!
