upon inspection of my 75 it appears to have the webasto heater thingy:o can somebody please answer a few questions for me.

how do i test it to see if it works?
on ebay there are some timers for these is it just a simple case of fitting them and will they work on my 75?

Yes, that should do the trick.
I can highly recommend the guy. Bougth the very same type of timer from him 6 mo ago.

As for the other questions, you should be able to find the info in the HOW TO section.

Hi 7t5 and welcome to the forum.

Based on the question about the timer, I presume you do not have one. In that case the heater will activate when the ignition is on and the temperature is below 5 degrees.

If you want to test it, earth out pin 3 (front block connector on top of unit, front left pin). You will hear the fan spin and will be able to feel some suction on the air intake.

Ah perhaps I need to add more to it

Test will work without ignition on, pin 3 is the one nearest the bumper on the left iirc

Too dark to go and look now

You just pull out them blue plugs with a pair of tweezers.
Pin 1 is the pin closest to the engine and closest to the battery. 2 is "below" standing at the front of the car. That is on the same side as 1.

hi
thanks for that think ive done it right!!
at the moment its sounding like a hoover and makes the odd clicking noise and the pump seems to be constantly clicking too its been going for around 5 minutes and the pipe to the bottom right is getting hot now.

so am i right in thinking that the heater is running ok?
if so i think ill invest in a timer now.

thanks

interior of the car isnt much warmer however the temp gauge is now at a quarter so all seems to be well, thanks for all your help. going to have a browse of ebay now:-)

A timer, some tinkering and Bob's your uncle.
You can read the description for the remote control. You just replace the switchbox of the remote with the timer.
I have put the instructions on :
http://vifa-as.dk/Webasto-remote.pdf
Or you could have both (as I have).

oem square webasto timer is £26-30 from sarkblue on ebay. extra £5 for the plug in the back. Interesting about the possibilities... I am following Keith's 'relay' route for connecting the timer to ground pin 3 of the fbh - but a diode also needed to ensure no damage to the digital timer by the relay. We discussed Keith's finding that using pin 4 to start the ATC (and hence heat the interior) does not wait until the water is hot.. it starts immediately pin3 is grounded.. so it might be sensible to try and build in some sort of time delay (say 15mins) before starting the ATC and making full parking heater function. DeeCee has some interesting ideas and has also suggested looking at the more simple approach of a digital timer delay ( item #110053256461 - RS 341-389 SPDT 4 Function Timer, 0.6sec-60min delay) available on ebay. (the seller couldn't answer my question as to whether it would work in this context) BUT, the more I think about it, the more I follow DeeCee's thought of why be so complicated - the load on the battery is enough with the fbh so why not just start the ATC once you get into the car and the alternator is doing some work....

hi
yes saw those timers on ebay i just presumed that i could wire one in easily? from what the seller tells me it plugs in somewhere?
not sure how easy would be to do so havent yet bought one but he is sending me the instalation instructions .
