Hmmm I can't actually tell when my car changes down through the box once it goes below 3rd, so I don't know the answer to the question, but check the fluid levels first, it may be low on fluid..

Could be the solenoids are on the blink. There are nine. I had two replaced at an auto specialists for £250.

You need to have a diagnostics done by the auto guys. They can remove the error codes and then test drive to see if they come back. Costs about £30 for that.

Get the fluid changed at the same time but needs to be done by someone who knows how. Special fluid and temperatures.

Fluid change had crossed my mind as first immediate action, best done by auto gearbox specialists----

Ring around a few places and ask them do they know what the fluid is for the Jatco Gearbox and if they give the correct answer your in with a chance.

If they are a good place they'll know. But just check your area for an auto specialist. In fact just stick with auto specialist anyway.

Looking after an auto box is considerably cheaper than getting a clutch done in a manual IMHO.

Hi Richie,

Engine tune can have an effect on the behaviour of automatic transmissions. Incorrect idle can cause rough changes which will be more noticeable in the lower gears. I would look at engine tune first.
